GFCI Outlets
GFCI stands for ground fault circuit interrupter. These outlets have a “test” and “reset” button. They are required by code to be in areas where the potential to get shocked in greater that in other areas of the home. Some of these areas are bathrooms, kitchen countertops, unfinished basements, garages, and any exterior outlet. If you have regular outlets in these locations then you’re putting yourself and your family at risk. GFCI’s are a simple way to protect your loved ones. We stock these on all our service trucks as well as the in-use covers that are required by code for any exterior GFCI.
Arc Fault Protection
Any new wiring installed in new construction homes or additions is required by code to be arc fault protected. This comes in the form of an arc fault breaker installed in your electrical panel. This breaker will trip if it senses any dangerous arcing throughout the circuit.
Electrical Contractor
The state of Ohio requires that any electrical contractor be state licensed. To obtain this license you must have at least 5 years of experience in that trade prior to applying, pass a background check, pass an extensive electrical exam, pass the Ohio business and law exam, and carry at least $500,000.00 liability insurance. Also, you must take at least 10 hours of continuing education every year to stay current with code changes and revisions. Electrical contractors in the state of Ohio are REQUIRED to post their license numbers on almost all forms of advertising. Vermilion Electric’s license number is OH LIC# 46456. State licensing information is available to anyone @ www.ohio.gov. If you’re unsure about an electrical contractor, ask to see their license and a copy of their insurance.
